Bolivia has provided the collector with some of the finest known examples of vivianite. The specimen shown above, previously in the collection of Dr. Richard Webster and coming with a label from Lawrence Conklin, is a highly choice and somewhat different example than what is normally seen available from the area. The specimen shows a very thin rock matrix, this completely covered by two diverging sprays of dark bluish-black acicular crystals of vivianite. Some of the crystals show terminations, others do not which should not be surprising when considering the nature of the crystals. The specimen is complete all around and measures 5.3 x 4.4 x 4.1 cm in size overall. Very fine and choice; of high quality. Ref: The Mineralogical Record: 6: 125-137.

Vivianite with Pyrite - Morococala Mine, Santa Fé Mining District, Dalence Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia

A beautiful well crystallized miniature specimen for this species! A lustrous prismatic deep bluish-green to almost black doubly terminated vivianite crystal measuring 33 mm in length is set aesthetically upon a breccia matrix coated by micro crystalline brassy pyrite. Very clean of damage with minor chipping on the lower termination. A portion of the matrix on the back, not seen when viewed normally, broke off and has been glued back. This could be removed if one wanted and would not effect the aesthetics of the specimen at all. Size: 4.2 x 3 x 3.1 cm.

An excellent and beautiful specimen for this species from Trepca! A showy transparent green prismatic doubly terminated vivianite crystal, very lustrous, measuring 22 mm in length is set perfectly upon matrix. Shows well all around and is completely free of damage. Measures 15 x 7 x 22 mm in size. Good specimens of vivianite are not very common on the market today; this one is very, very good. Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection #T1280 with data card. Previously in the collection of Willard Perkin and comes with his personal label. The back side of the piece, on the matrix at the back of the crystal, is sawn flat for display purposes, typical of many Perkin specimens. You cannot see this when the piece is display properly. This Bolivian locality became famous amongst mineral collectors for enormous vivianite crystals. This one is typical and very nice. A matrix-less grouping of large lustrous blocky complex dark green slightly translucent crystals measuring 6.6 x 5.2 x 11.2 cm in size overall. Pretty much complete all around with some cleaving on the back side. From the front this is perfect to my naked eye; I can find one tiny chip on a termination with my 10x loupe. This is a very pretty display piece; looks almost black with greenish reflections. Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection WW342 with label and data card.
