A beautiful grouping of two purplish-red opaque lustrous liddicoatite/elbaite crystals measuring 8.8 x 6.7 x 6.0 cm in size. No matrix; the crystals exhibit the neat multiple terminations typical of this locality. Completely crystallized all around as seen in the photos. To my naked eye this is undamaged; with a 10x loupe I can find very minimal "rubbing" in one area. Not prominent, this does not bother me at all when viewing the specimen. The color and shape are wonderful. There have been several articles publishing the identification results of this material; one study in Germany showed the material to be liddicoatite, another in the U.S. suggests that most all of these are elbaite. Some could even be rossmanite. I believe that each sample would need to be analyzed individually to know for sure which is which. Regardless, these are beautiful tourmaline specimens. This is from the major one pocket find in 2005; only about 80 pieces were recovered, of which 45 were of good quality.
