Several years ago neat loose spessartine crystals, some quite large, appeared on the mineral market. In my opinion these commanded very high prices considering the fact that they were not on matrix and were for the most part opaque. Recently good matrix specimens have appeared. This is one of them. A superb sharply formed, for this locality, orange opaque lustrous spessartine crystal measuring 4.0 x 2.5 x 2.3 cm in size is set aesthetically upon a 7.0 x 4.2 x 4.1 cm schist matrix. No damage and quite aesthetic. An oustanding matrix example for this new and important locality for the species. 1681170) Spessartine - Wushan Spessartine Mine, Tongbei, Yunxiao Co., Zhangzhou Prefecture, Fujian Province, China Size: 7.5 x 3.0 x 1.5 cm (small cabinet) Price: $ 24
