A "mound shaped" matrix of crystallized sparkling colorless tiny quartz crystals, this measuring 6.7 x 5.5 x 4.3 cm in size. The top is crowned by numerous dark red semi-lustrous sharply twinned crystals of cinnabar to 1.5 cm in size. The twinning is obvious on these crystals and very sharp. The piece displays great with all of the cinnabar crystals at the top. Shows nicely all around. Overall in great condition damage-wise. This is an excellent example for the species! Ex Wolfgang E. While Tsumeb is generally known as "the" locality for fine dioptase, this mining area in the Congo has produced some outstanding material. The thumbnail shown here is one such example. The crystals from here are usually more prismatic or elongated; this one shows lustrous emerald green terminated crystals to 1.7 cm in length. No matrix; the grouping is aesthetic and measures 2.2 x 1.9 x 1.7 cm in size overall. Well crystallized all around 360 degrees; this is very clean of chipping and damage. When examined closely the crystals show some translucency. An excellent example for the species!
