While Tsumeb is generally known as "the" locality for fine dioptase, this mining area in the Congo has produced some outstanding material. The thumbnail shown here is one such example. The crystals from here are usually more prismatic or elongated; this one shows lustrous emerald green terminated crystals to 1.7 cm in length. No matrix; the grouping is aesthetic and measures 2.2 x 1.9 x 1.7 cm in size overall. Well crystallized all around 360 degrees; this is very clean of chipping and damage. When examined closely the crystals show some translucency. An excellent example for the species! Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection #T1040 with data card.
