Beautiful pinkish-red lustrous translucent rhombohedral crystals of rhodochrosite to 2.0 cm across are covering attractively an 8.5 x 5.6 x 2.5 cm matrix. With a 10x loupe I can find very minimal and tiny chipping on some crystal edges. To my naked eye this is damage-free. The luster and amount of translucency is excellent for the species! The color is outstanding. Overall of excellent quality - a beautiful small cabinet specimen from this closed and classic locality. Ex Lloyd Tate collection. Ref: The Mineralogical Record: 29: 4. ***Should you have serious interest in this piece, and would prefer to see it in person before making a purchase decision, please contact us for further details.

Beautiful translucent red scalenohedral crystals of rhodochrosite to 2.8 cm in height forming a 3.3 x 2.8 x 1.8 cm matrix-less cluster. Neat crystal form - the original crystals were deep cherry red. There is a secondary growth of ligher colored rhodochrosite crystals "capping" the first generation crystals. Complete all around; one very tiny spot is chipped on the back of the piece as seen in the photos. Perfect from the front. The color and form is beautiful! Ex Lloyd Tate collection. A 12.0 x 6.6 x 2.6 cm matrix, the top covered by pink semi-lustrous slightly translucent rhombohedral crystals of rhodochrosite to 2.4 cm in size. The rhodochrosite crystals are set on a matrix of crystallized sphalerite and are partially covered with a silicic fine grained coating. The specimen has been repaired in two areas, basically piecing it back together from three sections. The repair is only obvious when looking at the back of the matrix; the repair is not evident at all from the display side. Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection. Personally collected by Jim and Dawn. This specimen was part of the 2002 special exhibit at the East Coast Gem and Mineral Show; the specimen comes with a label for this. Ref: The Mineralogical Record, 29(4), 115-122.
