A large translucent glassy thick grayish hydroxylherderite crystal is studded on all sides by prismatic lustrous dark blue elbaite crystals. Complete all around and in excellent condition. A 7.5 x 7.5 x 5.5 cm cluster of glassy water clear colorless quartz crystals, these measuring to almost 3.0 cm in length. These quartz crystals are mostly coated by sparkling pinkish-red needle-like crystals of inesite to 0.3 cm in length. The inesite crystals are in turn coated mostly by small colorless transparent gemmy crystals of apophyllite. Minor brown hubeite is in association. Shows nicely all around - no damage. Mirror-bright lustrous deep blue blocky crystals of lazulite to 1.0 cm in size are mostly covering the front side of a 7.0 x 5.0 x 2.5 cm matrix. The only damage present is on the exterior of the matrix, due to removal of the specimen from the mine. All of the crystals on the interior are sharp and perfect as seen in the photos. The crystals show translucency when examined closely. The quality is outstanding for the species, with large and sharp crystals showing good color, translucency. An outstanding miniature from this classic mining district! Sharply formed prismatic crystals of azurite measuring to 2.2 cm in length are set aesthetically upon matrix. A large chatoyant green terminated sharply formed azurite crystal, green due to replacement by malachite, measuring 4.4 cm along its length. This is set on the side of matrix. Showy combination piece featuring a bluish-green blocky amazonite crystal, this set with a partly gemmy terminated smoky quartz crystal. Measures 6.5 x 4.5 x 4.5 cm in size overall. Very tiny minute chip is present on one edge on the smoky quartz termination. Shows nicely all around and I think in excellent condition. Sits perfectly for display by itself. Some of the world's finest examples for this species have come from this Chinese locality. The example shown here is very fine, with lustrous deep orange prismatic terminated translucent crystals to 4.6 cm in length set on a matrix of massive white calcite. The specimen shows all around 360 degrees. Overall, for a Chinese orpiment specimen, this is in very good condition damage-wise. Measures 6.5 x 5.8 x 3.8 cm in size overall. Ex Lloyd Tate collection.
