A superb large example of the classic "modified" galena from the old Tri-State District. The "base" of the specimen is a large cubic galena crystal. There are many octahedral crystals of galena to 2.8 cm in size upon this cubic crystal. Minor marcasite in association. Very minimal microscopic level chipping is present; this very minimal. Overall I think the piece in great shape. Sits up perfectly for display by itself. A fine old classic! Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection #WW416. |

This mine has produced some of Australia's finest azurite specimens. Clusters of crystals were found in a kaolinite; these were mostly treated as ore and few specimens survived. The mine closed in 1972. This specimen consists of a large rosette spherical aggregate of beautiful sparkling deep blue azurite crystals measuring 9.8 x 9.2 x 5.6 cm in size overall. Very richly crystallized on the front side and clean of damage and chipping. Not crystallized on the back side of the piece as shown in the photos. This is about as large in size as these azurite specimens attained, and of excellent quality. Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection #WW431. Their data card notes that this was previously in the Demetrius Pohl collection, and that he collected the specimen off the ore pile just before it was to go to the smelter. This mine in Namibia, closed in 1978, is world famous for fine smithsonite. There were some very distinctive "finger-like" groupings found here in the 1970's. These were not terribly common. One such example can be seen in the book about the collection of Desmond Sacco. This large cabinet example is outstanding. Sparkling translucent to transparent crystals of smithsonite averaging 0.2 cm in size are forming long slender terminated "fingers" of smithsonite to 10.5 cm in length coming off a common base. Shows well all around 360 degrees and absolutely free of damage - an unusual and outstanding example for this species! Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection #S269. Previous label from the special exhibition at the 2002 East Coast Gem and Mineral Show. Their labels calls these "casts"; I am unclear whether these are truly pseudomorphs or just strange formations. |

Good large tanzanite crystals are seldom seen available on the market. Good large groupings of tanzanite are even more rare. This is an excellent grouping of terminated deep purplish to blue glassy tanzanite crystals, the largest measuring 7.2 cm in length. Complete all around and very clean of damage. Some of the crystal areas are translucent, some show areas of transparency. Measures 9.2 x 5.3 x 4.6 cm in size overall. This is an outstanding large example for this gem species! Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection WW295; this was one of their best specimens in my opinion. |

Well crystallized specimens of ludlamite are not always easy to obtain. Some of the finest examples known have come from Bolivia. The "toe-nail" specimen shown here is excellent consisting of attractive green doubly terminated crystals forming a tight cluster measuring 33 x 15 x 17 mm in size without any real matrix. Complete all around and without damage; the crystals show good translucency when examined closely. Very choice for this species! Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection #T1312 with data card. |

This famous locality is noted for many fine minerals. One of the rarities to have come from here are what are surely the world's best examples of paravauxite. This specimen is an oustanding "floater" grouping of pale green translucent crystals, the largest measuring to 18 mm in size. Overall this measures 18 x 17 x 18 mm. The crystals are complete all around and free of damage. Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection #T1068 with data card. Previuos labels include one from the Leonard Bedale collection, and one from Richard Kosnar. Ref: The Mineralogical Record 37: 117-162. |
